Karnataka pull off thrilling win against Punjab
Karnataka beat Punjab by 2 wickets and 2 balls to spare in their Syed Mushtaq Ali (Super League) Group ‘B’ match at the Holkar stadium in Indore on Tuesday.
Punjab made a good start adding 45 for the first wicket and 28 for the second wicket after Karnataka had decided to bowl first. But a collapse saw them lose their last 9 wickets for 56 runs. Stuart Binny took 3/26, bowling Punjab out for a paltry 129 in 18.1 overs. Karun Nair shone for RCB, taking a wicket and running out two Punjab batsmen.
Mayank Agarwal started aggressively but Punjab struck back, reducing Karnataka to 19/3. They had reached 75/5 thanks to a 31 run stand between Manish Pandey (31, 29b, 3x4) and CM Gautam (31, 26b, 5x4).
Gautam and the next batsman Karun Nair (16, 16b, 1x4, 1x6) added 42 for the sixth wicket, taking Karnataka to 117 before both were dismissed off successive deliveries.
By the time Punjab got an eighth wicket, K Gowtham, Karnataka were just 9 short of a win. Vinay Kumar (3*, 3b) and Abhimanyu Mithun (9, 5b, 1x6) saw them through, the latter bringing up the winning runs with a six off 19.4 overs.
Karnataka will play Uttar Pradesh at Indore on Thursday.
