Key is to take wickets: Kumble
T20 is nothing but a simple game of cricket. Take wickets, restrict the opposition and score the runs. Team Royal Challengers skipper Anil Kumble would like to believe so. On second thoughts, T20 cricket couldn’t be de-constructed any simpler than this. It’s on this simple belief that Team Royal Challengers would like to take the field against Chennai Super Kings in the first semifinal of the Airtel Champions League T20 on Friday.

“Too much planning means nothing if one can’t execute things properly on the field,” was Kumble’s way of looking at things. “In a 20 over game, you don’t find time to plan for the long term.” Team RC is focussed on the semi-final and it was evident from the skipper’s statement, as history and legacy backs the team. Team RC has beaten CSK in Durban earlier during second IPL.
But legacy doesn’t always favour the winning team. And who knows it better than Kumble. “The key is to take wickets at regular intervals. In a 20 over game, that would keep the opponent scoring under control.” However, there are a few things that are lingering in his mind. “We are aware that we have given away more runs than we expected in the last 3 or 4 overs, but as long we can score the runs we are fine,” Kumble sounded confident. “It’s a big game for us, we just want to execute our plans and play,” Kumble rounded off, refusing to think beyond the semi-finals at this point. The focussed attention, hopefully, will take the team beyond the semis, but if the team sticks to playing a simple basic game of cricket, like Kumble, all would tend to believe that Team RC would be unstoppable.
