Helped by 50s from three batsmen including a top score of 71 by Royal Challengers batsman Virat Kohli, India beat Sussex by 6 wickets in a 45-over match at Hove - Their first win of the England tour.

MS Dhoni was quick to insert Sussex in to bat in the overcast conditions upon winning the toss. Rain interrupted their innings and they lost a few quick wickets before Joe Gatting, Matt Machan and Ben Brown stabilized it, taking them to a defendable total of 236. RP Singh picked up 4 wickets while Praveen, Munaf, Mishra, Ashwin and Raina picked up a wicket each.

Sachin Tendulkar burst out of the blocks to begin India's chase, scoring 21 off just 17 balls before unsuccessfully trying to clear mid-off for another boundary. Parthiv Patel had settled in by then at the other end and put together a 63 run partnership with Virat Kohli. His innings was fluent, helping India make good use of their start. He departed when he was bowled by the off spinner Chris Nash for 55 leaving India at 104/2.

Kohli and Rohit Sharma then put together 104 runs for the next wicket to virtually seal the game for India. Each struck a six in their innings along with regular boundaries to keep India ahead at all times. Kohli brought up his 50 off 64 balls but Sharma was quicker, getting there in just 48 balls.

Kohli departed, caught by Machan off Naved Arif for 71 and India at 208/3. The next batsman Raina fell at 231 for just 12 but Sharma (61*) sealed the game for India with skipper Dhoni (1*) as India won their first game on what has been a disappointing tour for them till now.
