Lanka falter after Dilshan hundred
Tillakaratne Dilshan hit his second ton in two Tests as Sri Lanka fought back against Pakistan in the rain hit second Test at Colombo.
Facing a daunting first innings total of 551/6d from Pakistan, Sri Lanka lost Tharanga Paranavitana early for a duck bringing Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara, both centurions from the first Test, together.
They took Sri Lanka to 70/1 in just 15 overs when rain ended the day’s play on Day 3 at the Sinhalese Sports Club with Dilshan unbeaten on 46* and Sangakkara on 22*.
Early on Day 4, Dilshan brought up his 50 off 72 deliveries. Later in the day he brought up his 14th 100 in Tests off 178 deliveries with a six. Sangakkara’s 50 came off 74b and his 100 off 180b at the other end as the duo added 225 runs for the second wicket, batting together for 66 overs spread across two rain affected days.
Pakistan strung a bunch of dismissals together when they got Dilshan for 121 (195b, 13x4, 1x6), taking SL from 236/1 to 259/4. Junaid Khan accounted for Dilshan and Mahela Jayawardene (0) while Saeed Ajmal removed Thilan Samaraweera (0).
Nightwatchman Suraj Randiv ensured SL didn’t get another duck on their chart but his dismissal for 5 marked Stumps on Day 4. Sangakkara remained unbeaten on 144* on the other end as SL ended the day on 278/5, trailing Pakistan by 273 runs in the first innings.
