Mayank Agarwal, Karun Nair seal emphatic win

In what will go down as one of the most memorable chases of all time, KSCA Secretary’s XI pulled off a sensational victory over the much fancied defending champions KSCA XI in the semi-finals of the Safi Darashah All India Tournament on Wednesday.

KSCA XI, who won the tournament last year, set an improbable target of 567 for the Secretary’s XI to chase down in the race to the finals. The Secretary’s XI openers started off in a grand fashion, putting up a 237-run first wicket partnership. Mayank Agarwal (195, 245B, 27x4, 5x6) slammed his way to a swashbuckling hundred along with skipper Karun Nair (104, 120B, 16x4) who supported his partner by continuing his terrific form. However, Nair departed soon after, allowing number three batsman Arjun Hoysala to cash in on the opportunity. The duo added 125 runs for the 2nd wicket, as Hoysala too, completed his century. On the fourth and final day of the match, the Secretary’s XI needed 337 more runs to make their way to the finals. Agarwal was dissmissed on the brink ofn his double hundred, but Hoysala carried on, forming valuable partnerships with Kaunain Abbas (27), Abhinav Manohar (36) and Anirudh Joshi (27) to successfully complete a historic run chase for the Secretary’s XI. Furthermore, they were aided by 24 penalty runs as a stunned KSCA XI were subjected to a six-wicket loss.
