Mayank slams ton in Karnataka win
Mayank Agarwal struck a superb ton to set up Karnataka’s 12 run win over Hyderabad in their Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match at Bhadravati on Thursday.
He hit 7 fours and 4 sixes in his 64 ball knock, scoring 111 runs before he was caught by Akshath Reddy off the bowling of Milind. Manish Pandey and Lokesh Rahul contributed 31 each at the top but the loss of 4 wickets in 4 balls in the final over saw Karnataka being restricted to 185/7 in their 20 overs.
Hyderabad’s openers Akshath Reddy and T Suman posted an aggressive 58 run opening stand in just 5.3 overs but KJ Gowtham took 4/19 to derail their chase. Manish Pandey too turned in a surprise performance with the ball, taking 4/37.
Arun Karthik hit 66 (43b, 8x4, 4x6) before he was bowled by Sandeep Warrier in Tamil Nadu’s game against Kerala at Shimoga. Abhinav Mukund chipped in with 41* (39b, 2x4) and Dinesh Karthik with 44 (19b, 2x4, 2x6) as TN posted a massive 185/3 in their 20 overs.
Kerala’s VA Jagadeesh anchored the chase with his 75 (51b, 7x4, 1x6). Arun Karthik took 2 catches in TN’s defence but Kerala stilled caused a mighty upset, overhauling the target in 19.2 overs to seal a 4 wicket win.
RP Singh did well in Uttar Pradesh’s 9 wicket win against Rajasthan at Nagpur.
He took 2/30, dismissing Rajasthan’s top scorer AS Lamba (51, 48b, 3x4, 4x6), lower order batsman RR Chahar and running out AV Chaudhary as Rajasthan were bowled out for a paltry 103 in their 20 overs.
PSK Gupta and Eklavya Dwivedi added 87 for the first wicket in just 11.4 overs in UP’s dominant chase. The latter remained unbeaten on 65* (48b, 9x4, 1x6) as UP brought up the winning runs in just the 15th over, completing a comfortable 9 wicket win.
