Abhimanyu Mithun was drafted into the 14-member Indian side for the Third ODI against South Africa on Saturday, 27th February, while Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag have been rested for the Ahmedabad tie. This is the first time that Mithun has been called up to the national side in the shorter version of the game. It remains to be seen whether Mithun gets a place in the final XI after having picked for the first Test against the Proteas but was dropped from the team in the second Test.

Mithun replaces his Royal Challengers teammate Praveen Kumar in the team. Another Challenger, Virat Kohli, retained his place. With the series against South Africa already sealed, the Indian team for the 3rd ODI digs deep into the reserves and will be fielding a team without seven of the regulars which include Sachin, Sehwag, Yuvraj, Gambhir, Zaheer, Harbhajan and Ishant.
