Murali waylays Adelaide Strikers
Muttiah Muralitharan took 3/18 to help the Melbourne Renegades by 48 runs in their Big Bash League encounter against the Adelaide Strikers at the Docklands Stadium in Melbourne on Wednesday night.
Put in to bat first by the Strikers, Renegades were drifting at 51/3 in the seventh over before Tom Cooper (59) brought urgency to the batting, taking them to 155//6 in their 20 overs.
Nathan Rimmington gave the Renegades a good start to their defense, removing openers Tim Ludeman and Michael Klinger early before Marlon Samuels struck to dismiss the dangerous Callum Ferguson, reducing them to 40/3 in the 8th over.
Muralitharan then ran through the Strikers middle order, beginning by bowling Nathan Reardon off the last ball of the 9th over. The second and third deliveries of the 11th over saw him trap Kieron Pollard and Theo Doropoulos LBW to leave them at 51/6.
Strikers fought back with a 44 run seventh wicket partnership between Johan Botha (31) and Michael Neser but were bowled out for 107 in the 19th over. The win put Renegades back on top of the BBL points table with 10 points.
