Nannes stars in Renegades win
Royal Challengers Bangalore speedster Dirk Nannes took 2/36 to help his team Melbourne Renegades beat Sydney Sixers by 8 wickets in their Big Bash League encounter at the Docklands Stadium in Melbourne.
Sydney Sixers won the toss and chose to bat first, banking on their inform opener Dwayne Bravo to give them a good start. Dirk Nannes removed him at the end of his first over, the second over of the innings. His first spell ended though with Nic Maddinson and Michael Lumb attacking him and taking runs off him as he ended with 3-0-25-1.
His next contribution was to catch the big hitting Ben Rohrer at deep midwicket in the 18th over before returning to bowl the 19th over. He hustled Moises Henriques with bounce and variation in pace to have him caught behind. The last ball of quota ended with a cheeky scoop by Peter Nevill flying for six over fine leg, his figures read 4-0-36-2 as Sydney Sixers posted 161/6 in their 20 overs.
Aaron Finch gave the Renegades, slamming 25 off 15 balls before he was dismissed in the 4th over. Glenn Maxwell followed him in the next over after making just 3 runs. That was all the success the Sixers were to enjoy as Brad Hodge, who opened the batting and Renegades skipper Andrew McDonald put together an unbeaten 124 run partnership in just 13.2 overs to take them to victory.
The duo were calculative in their run making, content with just running hard till the 10th over when they reached 65/2 with 97 required from 60 balls. They took only 46 balls to finish the job.
McDonald was especially brutal after that, taking three off a Steve Smith over, two sixes off a Stuart MacGill over and one each off Brett Lee and Dwayne Bravo, ending on 60* off just 37 balls. Hodge hit Dominic Thornely for two sixes, Bravo for one and hit Lee for 3 fours, ending on 72* off 51 balls as Renegades chased down the target by posting 164/2 in just 17.4 overs.
