New Zealand set India target of 261
New Zealand extended their overnight score of 232/9 to 248 setting India a target of 261 to win on Day 4 of the second Test at Bangalore on Monday.
In the morning, Zaheer Khan had Jeetan Patel caught behind to wrap up the New Zealand tail. Zaheer finished with 1/46, to take his match tally to 3/129 and it was also Zaheer’s 100th wicket in Tests at home.
Chasing 261, Sehwag (38) and Gambhir (34) gave India a brisk start with 50 runs for the opening partnership coming in the 8th over. Soon Sehwag perished trying to hit a second six off Jeetan Patel in one over and was bowled. Gambhir had looked very assured of his defense in the company of Sehwag but Trent Boult's nagging accuracy manage to unsettle him. A characteristic poke that he had restrained so far came out and he was caught by Ross Taylor at second slip, leaving India at 83/2 with just 10 minutes to go for Lunch.
India went to lunch at 88/2, requiring another 173 runs with Cheteshwar Pujara (10*) and Sachin Tendulkar (0*) in the middle.
