It was a hectic schedule at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday, March 9 - the venue for the ongoing camp of Team Royal Challengers. While Praveen Kumar and Roelof Van Der Merwe - both prime members of Team Royal Challengers joined the camp today, it was heartening to see Coach Ray Jennings was under complete control of the proceedings and ran three separate batting sessions for the players. While Praveen Kumar and Roelof Van Der Merwe - both prime members of Team Royal Challengers joined the camp today, it was heartening to see Coach Ray Jennings was under complete control of the proceedings and ran three separate batting sessions for the players. As it was reported earlier, Van Der Merwe joined the team on Monday evening, Praveen Kumar, who was at the National Cricket Academy here in Bangalore (situated inside the Chinnaswamy Stadium complex) for a few days before spending time with the family back home, formally joined the camp today.
While two nets were set up for the expert batsmen, the other one - which was set up more centrally in the ground - caught the attention. The slog hitters were asked to knock the balls to all parts of the ground - under specific instructions from the coach. Ray even told the practice bowlers where to pitch the ball to the batsmen! Wondering who the batsmen were? Well it was Sreevats Goswami first - he was also doing the same rounds yesterday. The short wicket-keeper batsman from Bengal surely has some beefy muscles up his sleeves as he was crossing the boundary ropes with consummate ease so to speak. Van der Merwe came in next and in his imitable style practiced the lofted shots all over the park. The spectators really had a tough time in the stands when Praveen Kumar was asked to knock a few!
Eoin Morgan, the new recruit was given some special attention by Ray as he practiced the reverse sweep for quiet some time at the centre nets. It was otherwise rigorous practice session with the rest of the members of the side and went on beyond eight in the evening. On Wednesday the team will play a full practice game under the floodlights.
Ross will not be available because he has natl duty
(test match series vs aus at home) but we have cameron white!!!! so no problems with the batting order!!!
