Problems for India
It’s a do or die Test match for India and without Harbhajan Singh, India’s main strike bowler (as far as statistics goes), it becomes doubly difficult for MS Dhoni to draw parity in the series. Compounding the problem, was the loss of the toss for the third time in a row in the series, allowing Sri Lanka to bat first on a wicket which provided some juice to Ishant Sharma and Abhimanyu Mithun some movements, troubling the Lankans. But as the day progressed and the spinners were pressed into action, the pitch became easier to bat as Sri Lanka ended the first day on 293/4, looking strong to post a 400 plus total.

On paper, the Lankan bowling attack looks much better than the Indians, which will pose a big hindrance to India’s chances unless the Indian middle order sizzles again like they did in the second Test, albeit scoring at a much faster rate this time. The onus is on the Indians now to make this Test match not only interesting, but also win it to prove their numero uno status in the ICC test rankings. In that endeavour, one man who we would love to score some meaty stuff is Rahul Dravid apart from the others of-course. Its been long due from Dravid.
