Ranji S/F: Batsmen flounder, bowlers keep it even for Karnataka
A batting debacle by Karnataka was partly offset by some spirited bowling later on the day to keep the competition alive against Baroda on the first day of the Ranji Trophy semifinals on Monday.
Batting first, Karnataka was pathetic as they were bundled out for a paltry 107. For Karnataka, only CM Gautham (28), Stuart Binny (27), Robin Uthappa (15) and skipper Vinay Kumar (11), none of the other batsmen could reach double figures. Baroda, without Munaf Patel and Yousuf Pathan, were successful in creating havoc in Karnataka's mind. However, the bowlers kept Karnataka in the hunt reducing Baroda to 6/81 and was looking strong to gain even a first innings lead. However, a stoic innings by skipper Pinal Shah (72) helped Baroda to reach 133/8 at stumps on day 1. For Karnataka Sunil Joshi (4/46), Abhimanyu Mithun (2/18) were the successful bowlers.
