RCB bring the pace at IPL 2013 auction
Royal Challengers Bangalore went all out on pace at the IPL 2013 auction in Chennai on Sunday, buying RP Singh, Jaydev Unadkat, Pankaj Singh, West Indians Ravi Rampaul and Chris Barnwell and Australian all rounders Moises Henriques and Dan Christian.
RP Singh (base price $100,000), was RCB’s first buy of the auction for $400,000 after the team fought off bidding from Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals and the Sun Risers Hyderabad. The left arm pacer took the Purple Cap for most wickets in the 2009 IPL and will be an experienced partner or cover for Zaheer Khan at RCB.
Australia’s Moises Henriques (base price $100,000) who did well at the 2012 Champions League for the eventual winners Sydney Sixers was the next purchase for $300,000. Henriques is a hard hitting middle order batsman and a canny medium pacer.
RCB’s next three signings came in a bunch. Saurashtra pacer Jaydev Unadkat (base price $100,000) attracted bids from Delhi Daredevils and Rajasthan Royals initially before RCB signed him for $525,000.
Pankaj Singh (base price $50,000), who played for RCB from 2008-10 and for Rajasthan from 2011-12 was signed for $150,000 after another round of bidding against Delhi. The tall pacer had a good season for Rajasthan in the 2013 Ranji Trophy and could be crucial purchase.
Ravi Rampaul (base price $50,000), a key player in WI’s successful World Twenty20 campaign in 2012 had RCB competing with the Mumbai Indians. RCB won, signing him on for $290,000.
RCB next added to their list of Caribbean players named Christopher, signing pacer Chris Barnwell who played 4 T20Is for West Indies in 2011 for his base price of $50,000.
Dan Christian who played for Deccan Chargers in 2011-12 with a reasonable amount of success was RCB’s final signing of the auction. The Australian all rounder was bought for his base price of $100,000.
Today's signings give RCB the most deep Indian fast bowling resources in the IPL. The team's squad currently has a total of 31 players with 10 of them being overseas players. A team can have a maximum of 33 players in the squad with 11 overseas players. The team's current purse remaining is $ $711,522.
