RCB look for thumping win against CSK to signoff

Venue: M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru
Time: 4 PM IST

Playing their last match of the season in front of a home crowd, RCB will look to finish on a high note. The Chinnaswamy stadium has always been renowned for high scoring matches with consistent bounce and shorter boundaries. With big hitters in both sides, expect a high scoring match at this ground.

Head To Head

RCB has faced its South Indian counterpart, CSK on 16 occasions and have won 7 times and lost 8 times. The 1 occasion when there was no result was due to a wash out at Bangalore. The last time these 2 teams faced each other a few days ago, RCB emerged the winners in a low scoring humdinger.

Previous Match:

RCB played their previous match against KKR at the legendary Eden Gardens. In a poor effort with the ball, RCB conceded in excess of 190 runs and did not manage to grab their chances either. After picking a couple of early wickets, they got blown away in the middle overs by a century stand between Uthappa and Shakib. While batting too, there was not much help provided by the dormant Chris Gayle. Virat Kohli and Yogesh Takawale looked promising but the pressure was too high. In the end there was too little time for Yuvraj Singh and AB de Villiers to make a difference.

CSK lost their 3rd match on the trot when they took on desperate SRH at Ranchi. After a brisk start they lost some quick wickets but David Hussey and MS Dhoni pulled things back to post a good total in the vicinity of 180. However, the bowling attack disappointed with Warner and Dhawan running away with the chase and handing CSK another loss at their home ground. The usually reliable Ashwin and Jadeja did not impress much with their spin and neither did the pace attack have any teeth to it.

Preview Of The Teams:

With RCB out of the running for the playoff spot, they would be playing with no pressure to weigh them down. RCB have punched below their weight in the tournament with a star studded lineup that hasn’t clicked substantially together often enough. Yuvraj Singh and AB de Villiers had good knocks and Yuzvendra Chahal impressed with the ball at the start of the tournament. Mitchell Starc has been the a consistent overseas operator with his pace, but Chris Gayle has never looked like his usual self and Virat Kohli has looked bogged down at most times. Playing their last match at home, RCB would like to put up one good display to top their rough season with some positivity in the camp.

CSK have already qualified for the playoffs but have lost their bearing in the last few games. Losing 3 consecutive matches, CSK have looked out of sorts which has resulted in them losing all their momentum. With the structure of the playoffs giving an advantage to the top 2 in the league table, CSK will want to snatch a win at Bengaluru. At the top of the order, Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum have provided a good platform more often than not with Suresh Raina and Faf du Plessis to build upon it. In MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja, CSK have a strong duo to finish off games with a flourish. The bowling department is also well rounded with Ravichandran Ashwin and Jadeja providing economical spells of spin bowling. With Samuel Badree playing certain matches, this department is only bolstered even more. Mohit Sharma has picked up wickets in plenty but has also given away the most boundaries this IPL. Ben Hilfenhaus was good in the few matches at the start of the tournament but has been costly in India.

Key Players:

RCB would definitely be looking to Yuvraj Singh to make a strong statement in their final match this tournament. He has been a prime performer contributing with both the bat and the ball. AB de Villiers has also been good with the bat which has been highlighted by the fact that he has come in and played some explosive innings right from the outset. Mitchell Starc has spearheaded the bowling attack well but has often fallen short of support. With his feisty nature and wicket taking ability, he is a brilliant competitor for RCB.

Dwayne Smith has been a real difference at the top of the order for CSK. He finds himself amongst the top run scorers for the tournament and he is also a valuable contributor in the field and with the ball if the need arises. Ravindra Jadeja has also been pivotal in CSK’s success this season by bowling economical spells and also picking up wickets. Jadeja is also adept in bowling in the death overs and has repaid the faith that Dhoni has shown in him. With his lightning quick fielding and slog batting, Jadeja has justified his place in the team.
