RCB retains Kohli, Gayle and de Villiers

In accordance with the new Indian Premier League (IPL) retention rules, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have retained Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers. New RCB coaching appointments that include Daniel Vettori as head coach, Trent Woodhill as batting and fielding coach and Allan Donald as bowling coach, have also been announced.

RCB Chairman, Dr. Vijay Mallya, is delighted with the retentions and new appointments. Commenting on the retention decisions, Dr. Mallya said, “This formidable trio of players have contributed significantly to RCB’s past performance and are match-winners in their own right.Their retention means that we have a strong platform to build an exceptional team.”

India’s vice-captain Virat Kohli, is certainly no stranger to setting new records. Recipient of the 2012 ICC ODI Player of the Year award, Kohli became the top ranked ODI batsman in November 2013 for the first time. He recently joined Viv Richards as the fastest batsman to reach the 5000-run mark in ODI cricket. Kohli captained RCB in IPL 6, demonstrating an exceptional combination of leadership, passion, style and maturity

Virat Kohli is very excited to be donning the red, blue and gold again in IPL 7. Commenting on the recent decisions, he said, “I am happy and honored to be retained by RCB and it’s great to be back to Bangalore, literally my 2nd home now…Am looking forward to working closely with the new Head Coach Dan Vettori. Bowling Coach Allan Donald’s experience will add a lot of value.Together with my other retained mates Chris and AB and the rest of the Team, I hope to fulfill the faith that RCB and the fans of Bangalore have reposed in me.”

Playing for RCB since IPL 4(2011), left-handed batsman Chris Gayle has enthralled cricket fans locally and around the world with his blasting performances. This included setting a new record for the fastest century in the history of professional cricket with an incredible ton off 30 balls in an IPL6 RCB match against Pune Warriors. In the same match, he went on to make the highest score ever in T20, ending unbeaten with 175 off 66 balls. Chris was delighted with the news said “Home Again!! I am happy to be retained by RCB and looking forward to the love and affection… Bangalore, here I come again and let's rock!!!!”

South African ODI and former T20 cricket captain, AB de Villiers, joins Gayle and Kohli in creating this formidable trio. De Villiers has already thrilled RCB fans and IPL audiences by demonstrating chutzpah, enterprise, skill and a balanced temperament – a potent mix for winning matches. AB said that he is “Honored to be retained by RCB and extremely happy to be staying in Bangalore. RCB and Bangalore has a special place in my heart and I look forward to contributing to the Team’s success, come IPL. “

Dr. Mallya is also very pleased with the new coaching appointments. Commenting on Vettori’s appointment as head coach, he said, “We all know the kind of influence Dan had when he was leading the side, on and off the field. I believe that his vast experience at the top, along with his ability to manage and motivate will add great value to our quest for the IPL title.”

Vettori, who has captained both New Zealand and RCB, is one of the most economical bowlers in recent times across all formats of the game and is expected to bring a stronger tactical focus to the game. In his capacity as head coach, Vettori will have the opportunity to inject his substantial experience as present-day-cricketer-turned-coach. Says Vettori, “Having been closely associated with RCB for the last 3 years, I’m very excited by the opportunity to work with this exceptional brand and Virat in delivering on RCB’s true potential. My first area of focus will be to work closely with management in developing team composition strategy for the IPL auction.”

Allan Donald, popularly known as ‘White Lightening’, is currently bowling coach for South Africa and coached Pune Warriors in the last edition of IPL. He has a wealth of experience spanning coaching appointments for sides including England, New Zealand and Warwickshire County Cricket Club. Donald says, “I have followed RCB very closely in previous editions of the IPL and believe they have the potential to go all the way. I hope my experience will guide them in getting there.”

Trent Woodhill and Allan Donald join Vettori in creating a strong coaching platform. Woodhill, appointed as the RCB batting and fielding coach, has been credited with molding David Warner’s career as well as emerging Australian talent such as T20 player Nick Maddinson. He brings vast experience to his portfolio, having served as assistant coach to the New Zealand team, batting consultant to the Pakistan team and currently senior assistant coach with the Melbourne Stars in the Australian Big Bash.

Other confirmed RCB support staff appointments are Avinash Vaidya (Team & Operations Manager), Evan Speechly (Physiotherapist), S. Basu (Strength and Conditioning Coach) and Ramesh Mane (Team Massuer).

Vijay Zol is a must. keep him in "right to match" card if possible. He can do RCB what sanju samson and stuart binny done with Rajastan Royals..trust young players;they will give well returns.
