RCB sign Sheldon Jackson
RCB have signed Saurashtra batsman and wicketkeeper Sheldon Jackson to their squad for the 2013 Indian Premier League.
The 26 year old right handed batsman enjoyed a prolific 2012-13 Ranji season for Saurashtra, cementing his place in the senior side after years of impressive work put in the Saurashtra (U-14 to U-22) and West Zone (U-19) age group teams. Jackson was also a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders squad during the 2009-10 IPL season.
Jackson was a crucial cog in Saurashtra’s progress to their first Ranji final since 1937/38 with knocks of 83 and 117 against Karnataka in the quarterfinal and 107 against Punjab in the semifinal. He finished the season with 756 runs including three centuries and four fifties at an average of 58.15.
A middle order batsman, he had two quiet years after his debut in domestic Twenty20 in 2009-10 but did well in the 2011-12 season, averaging 64.50 in his 4 games.
His inclusion expands RCB’s wicket-keeping options, giving the team a choice beyond AB de Villiers and Arun Karthik. RCB now has 32 (22 Indian & 10 overseas players) in the squad with one vacant spot remaining for either a local or overseas player.
