Resolute India win to take 2-1 lead

Brilliant fielding, backed up by disciplined bowling and then sensible batting saw India winning the third ODI against South Africa and go 2-1 up in the series. It was a test of character for the young Indian team as the middler order once again came up triumphant against a 220 challenge on a surface which was tricky and not easy to bat.

Before the chase, the Indian bowlers, especially Zaheer Khan led the Indians to a brilliant display on the field. Two brilliant catches - by Virat Kohli and the other by Zaheer - typified India's intent in the field from the start. It was a charged up side which never lost concentration even though four top and regular players - Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir and Praveen Kumar - were missing from the line-up. Zaheer's menacing act left deep marks in the South African psyche from which they couldnt recover and plunged to 220 all out. His figures of 3/43, coupled with Harbhajan Singh's miserly act of 2/23 rubbed it in.

In the chase, Kohli looked steady in his 28, but it was Yusuf Pathan (59) and Raina (37) that set India on course. With this win, India goes 2-1 up in the series with two more matches to go in the series.
