Rilee Rossouw called up for South Africa’s 3-match ODI series against Zimbabwe
RCB’s Rilee Rossouw has been handed a golden chance to earn his very first ODI cap.
Rilee will replace the retired Jacques Kallis in the Proteas squad for the three-match ODI Series against Zimbabwe next month. He has also been selected for the triangular ODI tournament which includes Australia as well.
“Rilee is coming off a very impressive South Africa A series in Australia in which he scored 337 runs at an average of 48 with a strike rate of 96,” commented Cricket South Africa (CSA) selection convener, Andrew Hudson. “He has also been a consistent performer in franchise cricket for some time and his selection is well deserved.
“The message is clear to all our players: if you perform at domestic level and then take it through to SA A level, you will be rewarded.”
Rilee hasn’t had a lot of chances to prove his worth for RCB, however, his performances have been exemplary for South Africa A in the recent past. Rilee’s last four knocks for South Africa A read as follows: 69, 74, 38, 137. What a way to earn your place in the national squad!
If Rilee gets handed his first cap, it’ll surely be a treat for all RCBians as we could potentially get see Rilee combine with the ever dependable AB de Villiers.
Proteas squad for Zimbabwe Series: AB de Villiers (capt), Hashim Amla (vice-capt), Kyle Abbott, Quinton de Kock, Marchant de Lange, JP Duminy, Faf du Plessis, Beuran Hendricks, Imran Tahir, Ryan McLaren, David Miller, Wayne Parnell, Aaron Phangiso, Rilee Rossouw & Mthokozisi Shezi.
