Royal Challengers Bangalore retain Chris Gayle
Royal Challengers Bangalore retained the explosive West Indian allrounder Chris Gayle for the next two seasons of the Indian Premier League.
Chris Gayle was signed by RCB as a replacement midway through IPL 4 for the injured Dirk Nannes after going unsold at the auctions. His arrival turned around RCB’s campaign; he topped the run charts with 608 runs including 2 centuries and took 8 wickets as Royal Challengers Bangalore finished runners up in the tournament.
Gayle was paid $ 550,000 in 2011, the same amount that Dirk Nannes was signed for but his performance ensured that he would draw a bigger bid from RCB if it was decided to retain him and from the other franchises if he were to enter the auction pool.
The allrounder was retained ahead of the transfer window deadline of 20th January by RCB for an undisclosed amount. The amount will be made known to the IPL officials and deducted from the team’s purse for the IPL 5 auction scheduled on February 4th.
"We are delighted to make Chris Gayle a permanent member of our IPL squad. We are confident that with players like him in our side, we will take the extra step this season, and win our maiden IPL title," Sidhartha Mallya, Director, Royal Challengers Sports Pvt Ltd, said in a release.
