SA vs IND 1st Test: Kohli ton holds Indian innings together
Virat Kohli smashed his 5th Test century, first against South Africa as India recovered from loss of early wickets to finish on 255/5 at Stumps on Day 1 of the 1st Test at Johannesburg on Wednesday.
It wasn't the best of starts for Team India, who opted to bat after winning the toss. Openers Shikhar Dhawan (13) and Murali Vijay (6) fell prey to the pace battery of South Africa and India were reduced to 24/2 in no time. Cheteshwar Pujara (25) walked in to accompany the new No.4, Virat Kohli (119) and the duo steadied India's ship for a while. However, an error in judgement from Kohli led to Pujara's run-out, but not before the duo added 89 runs for the 3rd wicket.
Kohli then triggered from one end, scoring freely off the pacers and punishing Imran Tahir's freebies. Rohit Sharma (14) was caught behind of a length ball, but that didn't stop the flow of runs as Kohli brought up his 5th Test hundred, 2nd such away from home. He became only the 8th Indian to score a century in South Africa, and third to do so in Johannesburg.
