Sachin's 50th Ton, but India on the verge of losing

Sachin Tendulkar was at his best reaching his 50th Test ton, but its South Africa which may have the last laugh in the first Test match. Trailing by 484 runs, India rode on Sachin's century to remain poised at 454/8, just two wickets away from a monumentous loss, Sachin remained unbeaten on 107 as bad light stopped play. But for the weather, even a die-hard optimist should rest now on the fact that this Test match is headed only one way - the South African way.

Rahul Dravid, on whom much depended, could manage only 43 while VVS Laxman (8) and Suresh Raina (5) didn't bother the scoreline much. It was skipper MS Dhoni and Sachin's deft handling of the situation and their 172 runs partnership that raised hope for an Indian uprising. After Sachin reached his 50th ton, a momentous occasion for every Indian cricket fan, it was surprisingly Dhoni who scripted a reckless edge off Dale Steyn which hastened the inevitable. Dhoni, by then had reached 90 and was looking solid to notch up the second hundred of the Indian second innings. The wicket broke the morale of the Indian resistance and India trudged to 454/8 at the end of the day, knowing fully well, its impossible to save the match from here on.

But cricket has seen uncertainties, impossibilities transformed into possibilities. So, while the balance remains heavily tilted towards South African to win the first Test, it wouldn't be any wrong to hope that India and Sachin can bring some miracle on the 5th day to save the Test. Cause miracles can and do happen, and when Sachin is still there in the middle, it wouldn't be wrong to hope for a miracle.
