Tiwary's knock was a part of India's stunning response to AIS's first innings score of 205. India's first innings total of 534 included centuries from Ajinkya Rahane, Ashok Menaria and Saurabh Tiwary and fifties from Manoj Tiwary and Manish Pandey.
Saurabh Tiwary's violent innings featured 14 fours and 7 sixes and his strike rate of 102.02 ensured India have the time to force a result. He came in with India at 275/3 after the in-form opener Rahane and no. 3 batsman Menaria had set up a solid foundation for the innings. He was involved in a 111 run partnership with Manish Pandey in which the latter cut loose to give India's innings impetus. After Pandey's dismissal Saurabh Tiwary farmed strike with the tail for company and brought up his ton. By the time he was dismissed for the last wicket, India's lead was 329. India's healthy run rate of 4.86 also gave the bowlers enough time to try and bowl AIS out in the second innings.
The bowlers put India ahead earlier when they bowled out AIS for 205 in the first innings. Varun Aaron took 4 wickets, Jaidev Unadkat took 3 wickets, skipper Shikhar Dhawan took 2 wickets and Iqbal Abdulla took 1 wicket in the first innings of the 12 a side game.
After India's innings ended, Unadkat and spinner Bharghav Bhatt picked up a wicket apiece to reduce AIS to 28/2. Ryan Carters and Glenn Maxwell saw them through to the end of play from there, reaching 93/2 at the end of the second day's play, still 236 runs behind India's first innings lead.
