South Africa complete ODI whitewash against New Zealand
Royal Challengers Bangalore batsman and South African LOI skipper AB de Villiers led his side to a 3-0 ODI whitewash of New Zealand, winning the 3rd ODI at Eden Park in Auckland by 5 wickets today.
Protea Marchant de Lange and Black Cap Colin de Grandhomme put in crucial contributions on debut for their respective teams, de Lange taking 4/46 and de Grandhomme making 36 to stretch NZ’s total.
NZ were never allowed to settle by the SA bowlers after being put in to bat first. Brendon McCullum (47) briefly played anchor while Kane Williamson (22), James Franklin (36) and de Grandhomme (36) made starts but couldn’t capitalize on them.
Botha, Peterson and Tsotsobe were the other wicket takers as NZ were bowled out for 206 in 47 overs.
Wayne Parnell (27) was tried as an opener with Albie Morkel (41) promoted to no.3 while Hashim Amla (74) held up one end in SA’s chase.
Rob Nicol caused a slight flutter when he removed du Plessis (19) and Duminy (25) in consecutive overs but SA were almost through by that time. AB de Villiers (9*) and Johan Botha (5*) wrapped things up, the captain sealing the win with a six off Nicol as SA took the match by 5 wickets and with it the ODI series 3-0.
