Royal Challengers vs Mumbai Indians: Semifinal: Mumbai: April 21

There is no doubting the eagerness in this camp for the semifinal, notwithstanding the previous loss against their opponents.

As assistant coach Sanath Kumar put it, "The mood is positive. The players are relaxed and the last match doesn't mean much because Mumbai were playing with a freedom that they won't have in tomorrow's game. My feeling is that Rahul Dravid and Ross Taylor will come good. They are big match players with a sense of occasion. We will also be assigning specific roles to each player today so that there's a plan in place for the game"

We will also be assigning specific roles to each player today so that there's a plan in place for the game"

On the hour and a half long drive to the stadium, Anil Kumble said, "The most important thing is to treat it as going into win a cricket match and not a semi final. We need to concentrate on our skills during the game and the result will take care of itself". After taking a look at the wicket, he quipped, "I can see some spin and bounce coming out of this wicket. It should make for a good match"

Udit Patel was excited to see a brown track on arrival at the stadium, and immediately said, "Spin!" but on taking a closer look, it turned out it might bounce a bit as well.

The players set up the practise session on the pitches adjacent to the track and went about business. Coach focused on fielding for the youngsters, with Manish Pandey and Abhimanyu Mithun being given some diving catch practise.

As they headed out of an empty stadium, there was a final glance at India's cricketing bullring, the magnificent D Y Patil stadium.

We're ready for battle alright.

i assume the so called "specific roles" were-
kallis- to provide another failure at the top
pietersen- to show his dancing skills and get stumped
dravid- get himself runout
kumble- to ty to ball 2-3 NO BALLS
taylor- once again fail everyone's expectations
uthappa- to be over-ambitious
kohli- prove why he is not in t20 world cup squad
vinay kumar- to prove his basis of t20 selction merely as 'LUCK' and 'NOT ACTUAL TALENT'
pandey- to reveal his inexperience
p.kumar- to prove he is only decent enough for 1 over and disastrous in the remaining 3
steyn- to taste someone of pollard's caliber!!

My best 11 for RCB today:

Dale Steyn
Kevin Pietersen
Jacques Kallis
Ross Taylor

Anil Kumble
Vinay Kumar
Robin Uthappa
Rahul Dravid
Virat Kohli

Praveen Kumar
S Sriram/Kp Apanna

As far 7 Indian players in both squad, RCB looks great in performance so far in IPL2010.

The problem is 4 international players.

Look at MI, apart from Malinga/Fernando other 3 international players[Bravo/Pollard/Dummy/Mcleran] are bowling all-rounders and also excellent fielders. All the 4 players contribute in every single match with ball, bat and field.

Lets come back to RCB, we have big guns like Kp,Taylor/White,Kallis,Steyn. In all the matches in IPL2010, only one guy out of 4 will contribute for the success and not as unit. Kallis have excellent run in first part and in second part steyn produces some amazing spell. Kp contribute success for 2 matches and other fail in those matches. Still Taylor and white didn’t fire….

So if RCB need to win against MI, our all 4 international player will contribute for success at least 50% of their skill as UNIT…

i am asking the captain to win the toss and bowl first and then the openers must shine in the 1st five overs itself. We have seen in all the games that we hit just 12 runs in 4 overs of opening. This has made our team to loose. Please read my comment guys and my team is

Its not the time to give chance to the players. So formidable side has to be there to beat Mumbai Indians. My pick for the semis :
1. Jacques Kallis
2. Manish Pandey
3. Kevin Pietersen
4. Robin Uthappa
5. Cameron White
6. Virat Kohli
7. Rahul Dravid
8. Praveen Kumar/ K.P. Appanna
9. Dale Steyn
10. Vinay Kumar
11. Anil Kumble
If the pitch has little bit pace in it then Praveen Kumar has to get a chance , if the wicket is spinners friendly then K.P. Appanna has to get a chance. My pick is Praveen Kumar, though he failed in many games he has International experience. He has played against many good players in ODIs. So he can deliver for RCB if he gets going. He can exploit any swing present in the wicket. But he has to finish his spell before 12 overs. Dale Steyn has to bowl atleast 2 overs in the depth if we are defending our total. If we are bowling first then Dale Steyn should be used according to the situation because he is our trump card. Jacques Kallis should show some aggression . Manish Pandey has to deliver today to get us a good start needed for Big match like this. I picked Cameron White in place of Ross Taylor because he can play aggressively and he is in good form. Cameron White can play shots both offside and onside where as Ross Taylor is only strong playing leg side. As we saw in our last match against Mumbai they had very good field placement for Taylor and Bhajji bowled full length deliveries outside the off stump. Taylor struggled very much in that match. Robin should play according to the situation if he sent after the fall of 2 wickets. He should not throw his wicket away. If he is sent at No.3 position then he can play as he wishes. If Manish Pandey and Jacques Kallis give a good start, say 65 for no loss in 8 overs, then we are sure of chasing any big score. Mumbai Indians have a formidable bowling line up with likes of Zaheer, Malinga, Harbhajan, Mclaren/Fernando, Pollard. So we should not leave to the end, if we are chasing.
Best of luck RCB, you have the players who can deliver in crunch situation. RCB ROCKSSS...

MUMBAI: As they get ready to clash with the most consistent team in the IPL semifinals on Wednesday, Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Anil Kumble on Tuesday said his team is not thinking about the success story of Mumbai Indians instead they are concentrating on executing their own plans.

Both the teams have beaten each other in the league stage and Kumble says he would look at that win and their experience of playing IPL semifinals before for confidence.

"We would like to take confidence of the first game we played against Mumbai in Mumbai. Also the experience of having played in the semi-finals before in the IPL would probably help us.

"We would like to concentrate on what skills we can execute and how well we can execute our skills rather than worry about what has happened in the previous game or how Mumbai has come into the semi-finals," Kumble told reporters on the match eve.

The skipper was happy with the way his team has performed so far and said the team which will negotiate pressure in better way would win the trophy.

"When we set out, the goal was to get into the semi- finals. We have achieved that. We need to win two games from here to take the trophy. The team certainly deserves to be in this position. I am really looking forward to the game.

"As an experienced group we are aware of the responsibilities and pressures of being part of the semi finals. From here on whoever plays well on that particular day will go on to win," he said.

Kumble said it was quite an achievement for any team to play consistently well over six weeks.

"It's nice to be in this situation where you are in the semi finals of a big tournament. It's not easy when the tournament is played over six weeks and to be consistent and to qualify. We knew we had to win at least seven games.

"(It's) not easy to do that over a period of six weeks," Kumble said.

He though was disappointed on losing the home advantage as the match was shifted to Navi Mumbai due to security concerns in Bangalore.

"It's a bit disappointing we had to shift. (It was) not in our control. As players we have to play the game. The home crowd would have been great for us. It was a home advantage."

But Kumble rubbished reports that foreign players in his team had to be coaxed by him to play in Saturday's tie against the same opponents after the bomb blasts near Chinnaswamy stadium on Saturday.

"I did not have to persuade anyone to play in Bangalore."

Kumble agreed that Sachin Tendulkar was a big threat to their chances but said the rival captain was not the only obstacle before them.

"Obviously Sachin is a big player whether he's playing for India or Mumbai or Mumbai Indians. Any team which has Sachin Tendulkar as an opposition looks at getting him out cheaply.

"Hopefully we would be able to do that. We have seen his ability not just as a captain but also as a batsman for Mumbai Indians through the tournament. We are aware of that.

"But it's important to execute the plans and ensure we are on top for 40 overs of the game rather than just one part of it. So we would like to concentrate on the team rather than on one particular individual," Kumble emphasised.

Kumble felt pressure would be more on Mumbai following the shifting of the two semi-final matches to Navi Mumbai.

"Mumbai would be playing at home. They probably did not expect to play the semi-finals at home. In that sense the pressure is probably on them. It's a must win situation for all."

He also expected the wicket to be a sporting one. "This is a fresh track and not many games have been played. Only two games have been played here and tomorrow it's the third game. I'm sure it will be a good sporting wicket.

"For bowlers who can bend their back, there's a bit in it. For batsmen, it (the ball) will come on nicely as well. It will be a good game of cricket and hopefully we can execute whatever we decide," Kumble said.

Kumble did not dwell much on the allegations that IPL matches may be fixed.

"I can't answer much. What concerns me is what happens on the pitch. As cricketers our role is to ensure that we play to our potential and play good cricket," he said.
