Sri Lanka hold India for a draw in 2nd Youth Test
Despite captain Vijay Zol’s valiant knock of 128 (204B, 16x4, 1x6) and Kuldeep Yadav’s brilliant bowling spell (6/38), the Indian U19 side had to settle for a draw in the 2nd Youth Test at Kurunegala. This was Zol’s second successive hundred in this series, the first being a massive 173 in the 1st Test. After taking a 181-run lead in the first innings in response to Sri Lanka’s 212, the Indian bowlers failed to restrict the Lankans as they surged to 499 in their second innings, thanks to an unexpected 188-run eighth wicket partnership between their tail enders. The visitors, who were given an improbable target of 319 in 27 overs, only managed to get to 113/3 at stumps on the final day.
Thus, the two-match Youth Test series ended in a draw, with both Tests yielding no favorable result for either side. India U19 skipper Vijay Zol finished as the leading run-scorer of the series, with 301 runs in 2 matches. With 14 wickets in as many games, Kuldeep Yadav ended up being the highest wicket-taker.
