Royal Challengers vs Deccan Chargers: 3rd place play-off: Mumbai: April 24

Smarting from the ignominious defeat in the semi-finals, Team Royal Challengers gets ready to take onto the challenge of qualifying for the Champions Trophy as the third best team of the IPL. The challenge is from Deccan Chargers, who is also recovering from their loss in the semi-finals to Chennai Super Kings.
It’s unfortunate that RC is playing on a Saturday rather than on a Sunday. A team full of champions and potential bombshells on the field have unfortunately failed to gel during the later half of the tournament.

It’s unfortunate that RC is playing on a Saturday rather than on a Sunday. A team full of champions and potential bombshells on the field have unfortunately failed to gel during the later half of the tournament.
Kallis, who was the best player of IPL in the first half, fizzled out in the second to add to the woes of the RC’s fortunes. Along with him, Pandey’s form has also not peaked at the right time, as is for many others in the team. The bowling department also needs to be rejuvenated to come up with a stellar performance, especially during the death overs.
It is perhaps time to push, for one last time this year, to raise the tempo and qualify for the Champions Trophy. Defeats at crucial stages in the championship have perhaps de-motivated the team as much as the controversies outside cricket, but as professionals RC has got a job in hand – and a crucial one at that. Qualifying for the Champions Trophy would not be a mean achievement second year in a row by any means or standards.
It would help RC to end this year’s IPL campaign on a high, and would also definitely leave a somewhat satisfying impression in us – the vibrant fans.
