Put into bat South Africa laboured to 120/7 in their 20 overs – a genuinely low score in today’s T20 standards – but was necessitated due to the slowness of the wicket and the sluggish outfield. But like in the first match, when the Proteas successfully defended a score of 136, Steyn bowled a breathtaking speed from the start, removing the potentially dangerous Chris Gayle in the very first over of the chase.
The pressure from the start was too much to handle for the Windies batsmen, even when the asking rate was a scanty 6. Requiring 15 to level the 2-match series, West Indies could muster only 13 runs off the last over bowled by Ryan McLaren to lose the match by 1 run and the series 0-2.
