Steyn's strikes leaves India tottering at 183/6

India started the second Test against South Africa with the utmost desire for a win, but skipper MS Dhoni lost the all important toss which could perhaps have a bearing on the outcome of this match. With the wicket carrying enough pace and bounce on the first two days, it was important to win the toss and put South Africa into bat. But, as the reverse happened, India was at the receiving end of the stick, tottering at 183/6 at stumps.

Inclement weather and overcast conditions added to India's woes, as the Indian top order succumbed to the South African pace battery for the second time in the series. None of the top batsmen could ride on top of the Proteas pacers as Virendra Sehwag (25), Murli Vijay (15), Sachin Tendulkar (13), Rahul Dravid (25), VVS Laxman (38), Cheteshwar Pujara (19) couldn't capitalise on their starts to get to a big score. It was the pace of Dale Steyn that rattled the Indian batsmen to the hilt as he claimed 4/36 on a wicket which assisted the bowlers.

If Skipper Dhoni (20) and Harbhajan Singh (15), holding forte for India at the end of the day, can take the score to past 300, then India would fancy some chance to put South Africa into a spot of bother. That would require the Indian pacers to be spearheaded by the return of Zaheer Khan to be on the top of their form. It remains to be seen how the drama unfolds on the morrow though.
