Syed & Vettori's nerves of steel follow Kohli's kamaal

10th last week. 2nd this week. Just 2 wins, and the confidence is back within Team Royal Challengers. Goes on to prove there is no alternative to winnings. It brings back the momentum and a million smiles.

It was Gaylestorm that thrashed Kolkata Knight Riders in the previous match, "Kohli ka kamaal" tonight stole the limelight from Delhi Daredevils in their own backyard. The daredevilry by the Challengers made a mockery of the Delhi Daredevils tagline and the brand of their cricket.

If the loss of Dilshan in just the second delivery of the chase sent shivers down Team RC, the 83 run partnership that Gayle -Kohli carved out in no time left a telling blow on Daredevils. Kohli knows the Kotla wicket by the number of grasses on it. Post matc, on television, Kohli told he intended to play well in this match. It showed literally. A vicious counterattack launched by Kohli even made an audacious Gayle a muted onlooker. 67 runs were added in the first 6 overs reducing the target to less than 100 out of a possible 161.

Then came the mini-collapse and a near annihilation of the self belief. The middle order lost their cool in the chase. But it was skipper Daniel Vettori who still kept faith in him and his fellow warriors. Syed Mohammad'>Jamaluddin Syed Mohammad, the thrifty south paw from Chennai and a Challenger responded to Vettori's call and played a knock of his lifetime. It was just 13 runs, but each one of them were written in gold. Vettori himself made 18 but most importantly, when the chips were down, the skipper guided his team to safety like an able captain would do to sail his shit through rough waters to a safe shore.

A target of 161 was never supposed to be an easy one, but it was made to look easy by the men who dared to believe in themselves. Credit should also go to the bowlers who kept the opposition under check, especially after Delhi came into this match making 231 in their previous one.
