TNCA President’s XI advance to Buchi Babu semis
Riding on Arun Karthick’s stellar century and off-spinner Malolan Rangarajan’s six-wicket haul, the TNCA President’s XI registered an astounding 225-run victory over Hyderabad to enter the semi-finals of the Kalpathi-Buchi Babu All-India Invitation cricket tournament on Sunday.
Put in to bat by the opposition, the President’s XI were granted a solid start by openers Abhinav Mukund (46) and Arun Karthick (162, 245B, 15x4, 1x6) who laid the foundation with a 97-run 1st wicket stand in 36.4 overs. Following Mukund’s dismissal, Karthick continued his supreme run of form alongside B. Indrajith (95), and the duo were involved in a 201-run marathon partnership before they were dismissed in quick succession.
Vijay Shankar batted well, scoring 52 off 49 and helped his side accelerate towards the end. However, with the frequent fall of wickets, the President’s XI stumbled on their way, managing to rack up 396 runs at the loss of 9 wickets in 100 overs.
Hyderabad’s chase was disrupted by the off-spin of Malolan Rangarajan, who once again orchestrated a batting collapse in the opponent’s camp. His figures of 6/49 were instrumental in folding the Hyderabad innings for 171 in 62.1 overs. A Shinde top scored with a 74, but it wasn’t enough to take his side to the next level.
The huge victory has taken the TNCA President’s XI to the last four of the tournament, where they would join TNCA XI, Kerala and UPCA.
