Told Kohli to block every ball: Gayle
“God is good,” hurricane Gayle told!

After his 55-ball 102 which swept Kolkata Knight Riders off their feet, Team Royal Challengers’ newest recruit Chris Gayle surprised everyone by saying that he was just relaxing at home without practicing much! “It was the first time I picked up my bat after the world cup,” he said.
What was Gayle saying to Virat Kohli when he was stranded at 98? “When he got that boundary, it was a bit scary, I told him listen you have to block every ball.” Funny isn’t it? It is this cavalier attitude of a Calypso that wins hearts, and matches too. But Gayle admitted Dilshan and Kohli took the pressure off him. On his century, Gayle said, “The start is key here which we got. I could have batted faster, but I thought I needed an IPL century as I had got out earlier for 90-odd inside 14 overs.”
Kohli echoed Gayle’s sentiments. “That’s the way he bats. I wanted him to take the strike as you don’t often get a century in T20. So I decided to block everything after the boundary. I was disappointed to see Iqbal bowl the wide, but it could have slipped out of his hand as well.”
Team Royal Challenger skipper Daniel Vettori was ecstatic after the win. He said, “Outstanding batting from Gayle and Dilshan. If you have a player like Chris, you got to find a way to get him in the playing XI.” On the tricky Eden wicket, Vettori said, “We thought the wicket would get better as the game went on, and were proved right.”
