Twin fifties from Mayank Agarwal save Karnataka
Mayank Agarwal hit a fifty in Karnataka A’s second innings as their C K Nayudu Trophy Elite Group ‘A’ match (U-25) against Punjab ended in a draw at Bangalore on Tuesday.
Agarwal had hit 70 in Karnataka’s first innings of the game, helping them reach 266 in reply to Punjab’s first innings total of 493. He was supported by a 72 from Abrar Kazi and 35 from Adithya Sagar as the team reached 266 from being 86/5 at one point.
The total was not enough to avoid the follow on mark (344) but Karnataka did better in their second innings. Mayank Agarwal (74, 129b, 4x13) received support this time from middle order batsman Pavan Deshpande (53) while Kazi (66*) and Sagar (58*) reprised their rearguard roles as Karnataka staged a second innings recovery.
The match ended with Karnataka on 338/7 in their second innings after 5 mandatory overs were bowled on Day 4 of the game. Punjab A secured 3 points for the 227 run first innings lead they got while Karnataka A picked up 1 point.
