Ashok Menaria failed to match the feat achieved by Virat Kohli. The Indian Under-19 skipper, who very recently joined Kohli in Club RCB, failed to deliver the punch as India lost to arch rivals Pakistan by two wickets in a tense quarter final in New Zealand today.

In a rain delayed match, truncated to only 23 overs a side, India could score only 114/9 due to some quality seam bowling by Pakistani bowlers. Though Indian bowlers were right on target, picking up wickets at regular intervals till the low total pinched them too much to lose the match by 2 wickets.

Brief Scores:

India: 114/9 in 23 overs (Mandeep Singh 40, Menaria 15, Fayyaz Butt 4/27)
Lost to Pakistan 117/8 in 22.3 overs (Ahsan Ali 30, Sandeep Sharma 2/24, Unadkat 2/26, Menaria 1/16)

Indian batsmen struggled against the swinging ball under overcast conditions and lost too many wickets for too short a total. Mandeep Singh topscored for India with 40 but skipper Ashok Menaria (15), Manan Sharma (16) and others failed against the swinging ball to muster only 114 in the stipulated 23 overs.

Menaria shuffled the bowlers well to reduce Pakistan to 16/3 at one stage. They again stifled the opponents during the closing stages of the game when Pakistan had to score 35 off 24 deliveries with five wickets in hand. But a costly over by Sandeep Sharma in which he conceded 10 runs paved the way for Pakistan to scamper home even though they lost three more wickets.

Brief Scores:

India: 114/9 in 23 overs (Mandeep Singh 40, Menaria 15, Fayyaz Butt 4/27)
Lost to Pakistan 117/8 in 22.3 overs (Ahsan Ali 30, Sandeep Sharma 2/24, Unadkat 2/26, Menaria 1/16)
