Uthappa shines with a ton

Robin Uthappa maintained the Royal Challengers' legacy of excellence in the domestic league. If Virat Kohli, Vinay Kumar, Pankaj Singh proved their mettle, it was time now for for Robin Uthappa to hog the limelight.

Robin chose the first opportunity he got at the start of the domestic season as the Mohali track gave him the perfect occasion for Uthappa to shine in the longer format of the game. Robin showed his batting prowess with a polished 149 against Punjab which took Karnataka's first innings to a handsome 346/6 at the end of the second day. The first innings lead (Punjab were skittled out for 243) would be enough for Karnataka to garner 3 points from the match, but surely, with two full days still left, skipper Vinay would be pushing for an outright victory. Manish Pandey, however, missed out today on a half century when he fell at 49. At stumps, Vinay remained unbeaten on 7 along with Amit Verma (21).

Elsewhere, Virat Kohli couldn't add much to his overnight 119 as he stopped at 139. Rest of his colleagues, however, were clueless against Tamil Nadu's R Ashwin as Delhi collapsed to 318. However, Delhi's bowlers came back strongly in the match to reduce TN to 61/4 at stumps.

Sreevats Goswami, unbeaten on 15, is carrying Bengal's hopes on his shoulders against a mammoth Mumbai total of 621/8 in the first innings, helped largely by a brilliant double ton by Rohit Sharma. Goswami's team was 28/1 at stumps on day 2.
