Vettori is RCB's new veteran-in-chief
Daniel Vettori, one of the finest bowlers in RCB, has returned to training after recovering from an injury. With Muttiah Muralitharan in the side he may not be a regular in RCB’s starting XI but he is an integral part of the team, mentoring the youngsters and giving much needed inputs as ex-skipper. There is no doubt that Vettori will be needed at crucial times in the current season to help the team out.
Here is what he had to say to the media about the upcoming IPL season.
On their opening match against MI
He believes that this match would give them a chance to assess where the team stands, as well as decide what their strategy would be this season. “It will give us real test of where we are early on and we can assess how we can go in this competition depending on how we perform against the Mumbai outfit,” said Vettori.
On captain Virat Kohli
Vettori says that Kohli is an incredibly committed batsman, a quality of a good leader, as well as a player who gives in his best, and who has the ability to get the team to follow him. “Hopefully, the senior guys like me, AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle can support him”
When asked about Anil Kumble’s move to Mumbai Indians, Vettori said that everyone has to move on, and it was unfortunate he will not be a part of RCB this season.
On Kiwi teammate Jesse Ryder
RCBians have a special connect with Jesse Ryder who played for the team from 2009 to 2011. The batsman will miss the current season of the IPL due to a vicious attack on him in Christchurch last week. “He is improving every day, and will hopefully take the field soon.” Vettori had to say about his fellow Black Caps player. “Everyone (from RCB) knows Jesse. Everyone wants to see him there. Best wishes to him,”
