Vettori out of Jamaica Test with injury
Daniel Vettori was ruled out of New Zealand’s second Test against West Indies in Jamaica due to a groin injury he picked up in the first Test.
According to the New Zealand physiotherapist Paul Close, Vettori suffered some discomfort while fielding on Day 3 of the first Test at Antigua. It turned out to be an adductor injury upon examination which means Vettori will fly to New Zealand and not participate in the second Test which begins tomorrow.
The injury meant Vettori was far from his best in the first Test in which he took 1 wicket for 124 runs in 51 overs while West Indies captured a 9 wicket win, riding on contributions of 150 and 64* from Chris Gayle.
Vettori is also doubtful for New Zealand’s tour of India where they play two Tests and two T20Is in the lead up to the fourth ICC World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka in September.
