Vijay Zol to captain India U19s in ACC Asia Cup
Maharashtra batsman Vijay Zol has been appointed captain of the India U19 side for the upcoming ACC Asia Cup to be held in the UAE.
The All-India Junior Selection Committee met in Delhi on November 27 to pick the Indian team, where they named Zol captain. Kerala's Sanju Samson, who was part of the team for the 2012 Asia Cup, will serve as Zol's deputy.
Zol, who first came into limelight with an unbeaten 451 in a domestic game in 2011 has been in tremendous form of late. On his maiden Ranji outing, the 19-year old scored a massive 200*, further announcing his arrival on the domestic circuit. Zol has previously led the Indian U19 team in victorious campaigns in Sri Lanka and Australia, often ending up with plenty of runs.
Team India will lock horns with hosts UAE in their opening game on December 28. It will be followed by a riveting contest against arch rivals Pakistan on December 31. Other participating teams include Pakistan, UAE, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Malaysia that will be divided into 2 groups – A and B.
The matches will be played at six venues across the UAE, with the final being slated for January 4 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
