Vinay rescues Karnataka with 50

Vinay Kumar shined with the bat as Karnataka put up a dismal show in their first innings against Haryana in a rain hit Ranji Trophy league match here today. Vinay raced to a 69-ball 50 with 6 hits to the fence and two over it as Karnataka were bundled out for a paltry 222 in their first innings. Resuming at 84/3 on the second day, as more than half of first day's play was washed out, Robin Uthappa, who scored a century in Karnataka first match against Punjab, couldn't maintain the momentum to succumb at 48. Manish Pandey also ran out of his luck at 37. It was Vinay's 50 that rescued Karnataka's innings to some sort of respectability.

Abhimanyu Mithun struck first blood in the fourth over by removing Rahul Dewan when Haryana was on 8. But the bowlers failed thereafter as Haryana sailed to 146/3 at the end of day's play, trailing Karnataka only by 76 runs. With only two day's play left Karnataka may find themselves precariously placed with too little to defend and not enough time to force an outright victory.

Bhuvenshwar excels, Kohli fails

In other domestic matches, Bhuvenshwar Kumar, playing for Uttar Pradesh, turned on his allround skills taking 4/51 after scoring 47 with the bat. His team UP, however, had to surrender the first innings to Baroda who strummed up 309 in their first innings. Virat Kohli, after two successive centuries in two outings, failed to live upto his reputation as he was out cheaply on 6 against Gujarat. Kohli's team Delhi, however is sitting pretty at 248/3 after shunting out Gujarat for a mere 71.

KP fails with the bat

Kevin Pietersen was dismal in his 5 against Australia A in the run-up to The Ashes. England XI however made 335/5 at the end of day in reply to 230 by the Aussies. Steven Smith had strummed up a polished 59 for the hosts but skipper Cameron White was out for a cheaply 5.
