Warrier, Kerala survive Unmukt onslaught
Sandeep Warrier bowled for priceless figures of 1/19 and Kerala’s batsmen executed a steep chase to post a big upset against Delhi in their Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Super League fixture at Indore on Tuesday.
Kerala’s decision to field first bore early fruit with the dismissal of opener Mohit Sharma off the second ball of the game. But with subsequent partnerships of 62 and 122, Delhi racked up a massive total of 195/4 in their 20 overs. Unmukt Chand was the star of their innings, hitting 105 (67b, 12x4, 4x6) before being dismissed by Prasanth Parameswaran (1/49) off the penultimate ball of the innings.
Huge as it was, Delhi’s total could have been bigger if not for Sandeep Warrier’s economical 3-0-19-1, the only bowler with a sub 7 economy rate in the match.
Rohan Prem anchored the chase for Kerala with his 92* (51b, 9x4, 3x6), adding 60 off just 39b with opener VA Jagadeesh for the 2nd wicket and then a violent 83 off just 38b with Sachin Baby (48, 19b, 7x4, 2x6). Raiphi Gomez finished with a whirlwind 16* (5b, 2x4, 1x6) as Kerala overhauled the target in just 18 overs, posting 197/4.
