The coolest RCB updates, served hot.

We are in the Finals!

We are in the Finals!

The trembling legs was only to settle it firmly one inch away from the boundary line. The eyes were fixed on the white leather like Arjuna had on his prey with the arrow. And then just when the ball was dangerously close to landing over the rope, Abhimanyu Mithun stretched out his right hand and caught off Keiron Pollard one handed! That catch on the boundary lines by Mithun underlined the confidence with which Team Royal Challengers played at Chennai. The "second life" - after the loss against Chennai Super Kings in the first play-off - was an ambush by RC on Mumbai Indians, started by a 27-run first over by none other than one Jamaican who has fast turned this IPL into a GPL - Gayle Premier League.

Team Royal Challengers is in the finals of IPL. Again.

Team Royal Challengers is in the finals of IPL. Again.

The tournament favourites Mumbai Indians were thumped royally by a whopping 43 runs and it was again a "Gayle"vanising performance right from the start. The 113 run opening wicket partnership was the ideal start. It was an awesome stand characterisied by the usual Gayle aggression, but more than anything it was a young lad Mayank Aggarwals ruthless daredevilry that caught Mumbai by utter surprise. Mayank's 41 in 31 balls sometimes even challenged his famed partner at the far end. Gayle, however, was unfazed and carried on with little respect for the bowlers or the cap - whether it was purple or blue!

A 47 ball 89 took Gayle tantalisingly close to a third IPL hundred this season, but more than that, his dismissal left the team short of reaching the 200 mark. But then 185 was little too much for Sachin and company to handle. If the critics were afraid that RC's bowling wasn't upto the mark, then they must have gone into hiding now. The masterstroke of playing an extra spinner on an even Chennai track was the key - Syed Mohammad. His flat trajectory side-on deliveries had the potential to spin more and it did. The Legend was foxed and caught in the middle of the pitch as AB removed the bails in a flash behind him. That was the defining moment of Syed's cricketing career this evening. Sachin Tendulkar's wicket in the 8th over that sent the shivers down Mumbai's spines.

Team RC raised their level by a few notches on this day and thus avenged the defeat of last year's IPL semi-finals. The domination was overwhelming. Its better to prove it in the field that to brag about it outside. That's how skipper Danielle Vettori wants it. " We have played well most of the season," he summarized. But Vettori was particularly happy the way RC bowled tonight. "Our opening bowling was a big plus today, Aravind was able to take early wickets again, whatever Mumbai threw at us, we were able to counter with good bowling."

So how will it going to be on the morrow. The best of Team RC is yet to come. Lets hope Gaylestorm lashes on Chennai Super Kings again tomorrow in Chennai.

Bring it on!
