WI wrap up Florida T20I series 2-0
Chris Gayle and Sunil Narine starred in West Indies’s massive 61 run win against New Zealand in the second T20I at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida on Sunday.
The win gave them the two match series 2-0.
Royal Challengers Bangalore opener Chris Gayle struck a second consecutive half century after West Indies chose to bat first, hitting 53 (39b, 3x4, 4x6) to go with his 85* from the first T20I on Saturday.
He was supported by Johnson Charles (36 off 32b, 4x4, 1x6) in a 72 run partnership for the second wicket. Dwayne Bravo ended the innings with a bang, hitting 35* off 11b (1x4, 4x6) as WI managed a healthy total of 177/5 in their 20 overs.
NZ’s openers Martin Guptill and Rob Nicol added 26 for the first wicket, a partnership matched by Daniel Flynn and Tom Latham for the 6th wicket. In between, Sunil Narine, Samuel Badree and Marlon Samuels wrecked the NZ top order.
Clueless and sorely missing their injured skipper Ross Taylor, NZ folded for 116 in 18.4 overs. Marlon Samuels was a bit expensive with his 3/25 in 3 overs but Narine and Badree combined for an incredible 5/32 in their 8 overs.
Narine’s unbelievable figures of 4/12 earned him the Man of the Match award while Chris Gayle was declared the Man of the Series for his 138 runs at an average of 138 and strike rate of 151.64.
