Zaheer injured, could miss Ranji QF
Zaheer Khan, leading Mumbai in their Ranji match against Gujarat ensured they progressed to the quarterfinals but could miss the game due to a calf strain.
Khan lead from the front in their game at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, bowling himself for long spells as Mumbai bowled Gujarat out for 244 in their first innings. Zaheer took 2/40, the long spells aggravating the injury he had picked up in the previous game against Madhya Pradesh.
Mumbai needed 3 points to qualify for the semis and they secured those via a 203 run first innings lead, posting 447 on the back of runs from Wasim Jaffer (171), Hiken Shah (82) and Abhishek Nayar (72*).
Zaheer did not bowl or field at all during Gujarat’s second innings. He remained in the pavilion while Mumbai bowled Gujarat out for 337 in 100.4 overs, setting themselves a target of 135 runs. Kaustubh Pawar (15*) and Hiken Shah (42*) saw the team out to close of play with the score 65/1, the draw securing their passage to the quarterfinal where they will face Baroda.
