Zaheer Khan leads Mumbai in Ranji Trophy
Zaheer Khan took charge of the Mumbai Ranji side in their Group A clash against Gujrat being played at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
Mumbai are without the services of skipper Ajit Agarkar who was ruled out of the game with a groin strain. The 39 time champions are facing a tough time in their quest to qualify for the Quarterfinals of the current Ranji season. Zaheer’s return in the previous game saw them snatch a hard fought outright win and kept their campaign alive.
Khan won the toss and chose to bowl first against Gujrat on Saturday. He drew first blood, dismissing opener Smit Patel in his second over of the day before returning to send back middle order batsman Manprit Juneja. Zaheer finished with 2/40 as Gujrat were bowled out for 244 in their first innings. Mumbai finished Day 1 on 24/1
Wasim Jaffer carried on from his 6* to post his first Ranji hundred of the season, scoring 171 runs. Jaffer and Hiken Shah added 213 runs for the 3rd wicket to help Mumbai seal 3 points with the first innings lead. Mumbai finished Day 2 on 323/5 with a lead of 79 runs.
