Zaheer Khan to represent India A
Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan has been picked in the India A squad for two four-day games against West Indies A to be played later this month.
Zaheer, who was dropped from the Test side in late 2012, has been working on his fitness in order to get back to playing international cricket. The veteran followed a strict regime that included a 6-week intense training in France earlier this year along with fellow teammate Yuvraj Singh. He will be hopeful of a national comeback and this call-up would be an opportunity to prove his fitness and form to the selectors.
Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif are among the others to be granted inclusions. Sehwag last played a Test in March this year, whereas Gambhir represented Essex in county cricket. Kaif’s inclusion came as a surprise as his last Test was back in 2006. While Sehwag, Kaif and Gambhir will join Zaheer in the longer format, Yuvraj will lead the one-day side and also India Blue in the Challenger Trophy.
Cheteshwar Pujara will captain India in all the four-day matches.
