Zaheer to play Ranji for Mumbai
Zaheer Khan will play for his domestic side Mumbai in their Ranji Trophy game against Madhya Pradesh at Indore from December 22-25.
The pacer had been left out of the squad for the Nagpur Test against England alongwith Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh as the selectors responded to criticism over India’s 2-1 series loss at home. The selectors mentioned that Virender Sehwag and Zaheer had opted out of playing in the T20Is.
Mumbai are in a dire situation in the Ranji Trophy with only 14 points from six games, languishing at the sixth spot in Group A. They need to win their final two games to keep hopes of qualifying for the knockouts alive.
Zaheer will be a much needed to boost to the side in this situation with his experience and expertise. He will himself be trying to take wickets and earn a return to the Indian squad for the Tests against the visiting Australian side in February 2013.
