Zol fifty props up Maharashtra
Vijay Zol hit a fifty to contribute to Maharashtra’s total on Day 1 of their Cooch Behar Trophy (U-19) semifinal against Karnataka on Sunday.
Karnataka’s bowlers were disciplined at their home ground but Maharashtra’s batsmen were up for the challenge, grinding their way to a respectable 271/4 at Stumps on Day 1 of the four day game.
Zol contributed 56 (118b, 7x4, 2x6) in an opening partnership of 118 with Jay Pande (65). Both were dismissed within a few runs of each other but Yassar Shaikh (40) and Shubham Ranjane (66*) added another 66 for the third wicket. Karnataka’s young bowlers struck back, getting Shaikh and Rahul Sharma (0) in quick succession to reduce Maharashtra to 200/4 at one point.
Ranjane then added an unbeaten 71 run partnership with skipper-wicketkeeper Nikhil Naik (38*), taking the team to 271/4 at Stumps in the match being played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
