23 wickets in 3 games: The Duffy Express rams full throttle into West Indies
Jacob Duffy wreaked absolute havoc in Mount Maunganui as the Kiwi pace ace dished out a masterclass against West Indies in the recently concluded three-match Test series. The Player of the Series, Jacob Duffy picked 23 wickets, leaving the Islanders in a trail of carnage and earned himself the Player of the Series award.
In the final Test, Duffy chronicled nine wickets across two innings as the visitors didn’t stand a chance against the mighty New Zealanders. The pacer claimed a four-fer in the first innings, pocketing the scalps of John Campbell, Brandon King, Anderson Phillip and Shai Hope.
After a decent show in the first innings, when the Windies batting unit came out in the second, it turned out into a great disaster, courtesy of Duffy. The pacer dropped another five-star showdown, clinching the wickets of Brandon King, Alick Athanaze, Justin Greaves, Roston Chase and Jayden Seales, sealing the fate of the contest.
However, what happened in the final Test of the series was simply an encore of what Duffy has been doing throughout the calendar year.
Duffy also became the leading New Zealand wicket-taker in calendar year with 87 scalps next to his name. Duffy’s exploits against West Indies can be a prelude to the madness which is to come in the Red and Gold threads whenever he gets an opportunity.
