Auqib Nabi earns maiden India Test call-up as Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of Sri Lanka series
In an unfortunate development for Indian pace ace Jasprit Bumrah, he has been ruled out of the Sri Lanka series with a knee injury. While playing against England in the second ODI, Bumrah sustained a blow to his left knee, which forced him out of India’s upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.
J&K fast bowler Auqib Nabi was called up in place of Bumrah for the series. This is Nabi’s maiden international call-up, which came on the back of two fabulous domestic seasons. Nabi claimed 60 wickets in the 2025-26 campaign, adding to the 44 scalps he registered in the 2024-25 season.
Bumrah had been included in the Indian squad, with his availability subject to fitness clearance. However, he failed to recover fully, leading to his exclusion from the squad.
Nabi was impressive in his outing for India A, touring Sri Lanka, claiming six wickets from two four-day matches, including best figures of 4/58 in the first innings of the opening game.
India will play two Tests against Sri Lanka, starting on 15th August, with the second Test beginning on 23rd August. The first Test will be held in Galle, while the second will be played in Colombo.
