"It felt very aligned" - Phil Salt on his initial thoughts on being signed by RCB
RCB roped in Phil Salt for INR 11.5 crore, a deal that changed the course of the IPL 2025 campaign in which they finished as champions. From hammering away at will to propelling the Royal Challengers to their first IPL trophy, Salt was a crucial part of RCB's title-winning season, and talking on the latest episode of Big Basket presents RCB Podcast: Bold & Beyond, Salt revealed the first thoughts which he had about the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Salt said, “First thoughts were this is a team that I think I'll suit playing in. The way RCB teams have always carried themselves on the pitch, the brand of cricket that's played and I could see you know very clearly from my first conversation with Mo which wasn't too long after the auction. I could see their reasons for signing me and the job they wanted me to do. So it all felt very aligned with what I do.”
He eventually made his words come true as he was a perfect fit for RCB. From the first game of the tournament itself, he dominated the proceedings with the bat. His performances up top ensured that RCB had a solid platform to accelerate later in the innings and at the end of IPL 2025, Salt's numbers of 403 runs at a strike rate of 175.98 further highlighted why the think-tank trusted the opener with a heavy paycheck at the auction.
